Fenimore String Quartet

Four Voices, Shared Vision

Summer festivals offer arts professionals a chance to recharge and reconnect—creatively, socially, and artistically. Each summer, the Fenimore String Quartet members leave their homes across the United States to gather in beautiful upstate New York for several weeks of “work and play.” Several perform with the Glimmerglass Festival Orchestra (Cooperstown/Springfield Center, NY), and whenever time allows, they immerse themselves in chamber music.

The Quartet blends the insight of seasoned chamber players with the unique chemistry forged through years of collaboration. Their performances—vibrant, thoughtful, and deeply communicative—have become a much-anticipated highlight of the Cherry Valley Artworks Concert Series and other community events throughout the region.

From Beethoven to tangos, you’re sure to find something to love on the Fenimore’s musical menu!

Shared Stages, True Voices

The Kitt Shipman Catlin Memorial Chapel (1900): Springfield Center, NY (where the Quartet rehearses)

Here are some links to Catlin and Shipman history: (Based upon this research, we were fascinated to learn that Edward Catlin and Kitt Shipman first met when he traveled from Boston to Springfield Center as guest conductor for the Springfield Center Town Band. Other intriguing history involves the Shipman Family Tree and Leatherstocking Tales history: yes, we considered calling ourselves the “Natty Bumppo String Quartet”!)

Ruth Berry (and her builder/craftsman Dev Kernan) won the 2013 Renaissance Award for Historic Preservation from Otsego 2000. In 2017, the reception for the annual awards ceremony will be held at the chapel.
